Our Elementary & Middle School

ACADEMIC Services

The ImPerfect Place offers an opportunity for Elementary & Middle home-schooled students to learn in a supportive and accommodating environment. At this time, we are enrolling Learners in 3rd through 8th grade. Using curriculum from Khan Academy, our staff supports and accommodates our Learners for Math, daily. We make every effort to ensure the curriculum is matched to each Learner and provide one-to-one support for direct academic work. Additionally, each Learner chooses a topic of their choice to explore and research each month. These topics may include subjects in Science, English, History or Art.

Because we also want to offer opportunities for social and emotional regulation, each Learner and their team will create one goal to address these areas. We know that traditional school limitations do not allow for these special and important areas to be addressed.

Our High School

ACADEMIC Services

The ImPerfect Place offers two opportunities for High School home-schooled students to continue their education.

DIPLOMA TRACK

For Learners pursuing their high school diplomas, The Imperfect Place will work with families to support their individual curriculums. Staff will provide one-to-one support for direct academic work. For Learners using online programs, we charge an additional fee per class we support. We limit each Learner to 2 classes per month to ensure ethical and responsible services. For individuals using Self-Determination funding, please mention this on your registration form, so we may explore options to support life-skills for your Learner. The ImPerfect Place presumes competence of all Learners, therefore is not responsible for the grades received on tests or work by the Learner.

Because our Learners are home-schooled, it is the responsibility of the Guardians to register for and manage submission of work.

ENRICHMENT TRACK

For Learners interested in maintaining enrichment through academics, our staff will support and accommodate those Learners for Math, daily, using Khan Academy. We make every effort to ensure the curriculum is matched to each Learner. Additionally, each Learner chooses a topic of their choice to explore and research each month. These topics may include subjects in Science, English, History or Art and offer the Learner to educate themselves and their peers through presentations.

HOW TO REGISTER

Our COMMUNITY

Community support is an important part of our program. We know many different learners have felt misunderstood. We provide opportunities for our Learners to engage with peers, knowing they will be supported through hardships.

After all, learning is imperfect.

We know the families of our Learners have also experienced judgment and criticism as they face how to support their Learners. We therefore encourage our community to be accepting of ALL Learners, despite their challenges.

Our MENTORS

For each of our Learners, we offer an opportunity to gain mentorship from other neuro-divergent individuals. We have a number of older Mentors who volunteer to answer any questions our Learners have and provide guidance for issues and concerns our special community encounters. We do our best to pair our Learners with like-minded Mentors. To learn about our Mentors, click the link below!

Let’s Get STARTED!

All interested Learners must complete our Intake Form online. In lieu of an Application Fee, we require those interested to attend our 2-part virtual Orientation to learn more about our program and answer your questions.

We know there are many approaches to supporting neurodevelopmental differences. We want to make sure we’re a good fit for you and your family. We therefore may determine we are not the best placement for your needs. We do not endorse ABA philosophy at The Imperfect Place.

In order for us to adequately support our differently-speaking Learners, those interested MUST have access to and experience with a reliable, competence-based communication strategy. This may include letterboards, yes/no options, choice-boards or symbolic choice programs such as Proloquo2Go.

STEP 1: Visit our Registration Page to complete our Intake Forms.

STEP 2: When Intake Forms are submitted, you will see a link and instructions to register for our Orientation.

STEP 3: Once BOTH parts of the Orientation are completed, we will contact you to complete our application and in-person tour.

STEP 4: Submit application and complete your tour.

Official acceptance to The ImPerfect Place will be decided after your tour. We understand that along the way you may decide we are not the best option for you. At any point, you may withdraw your application.
